Under Gears of War license through my time at Performance Designed Products I was tasked to create a life like product of an in-game model. The challenge here was that the assets used to create this in CAD were pulled directly from images within the game; scale and size had to be taken into account because the characters in the game are mutant humans so the in-game model did not fit realistic standards of a toy collectible.
Below, Images provided by licencor. These were the only reference points prior to starting CAD
We were able to find a game 3D model but because we were creating this in CAD for manufacturing, the properties would not convert one to one.
Here is a quick example of the process in Solidworks to create this gun.
I then 3D Printed the entire gun to scale from the game (Printed on a Fortus 250mc)
This process was necessary as scale was a major issue. Ultimately the gun was scaled down uniformly.
Final Sample model before production. We started to work on a final CMF.
